“IGNITE”, A Breast Reconstruction Awareness Program, held on June 08, 2024, organized by the RGCIRC in association with Project I am Enough, successfully brought together survivors, healthcare professionals, and community members in a supportive and informative environment.
The idea of the event was to educate and empower breast cancer survivors about their reconstruction options and available resources.
Dr. A.K Dewan (Director, Surgical Oncology) talked about the significant advancements and evolution of breast cancer care in India and how the focus has shifted on to tailored treatments for individual patients. Dr. Rajan Arora (Senior Consultant, Microvascular and reconstructive surgery) and Dr. Samarth Gupta (Attending Consultant) further shed light on demystifying breast cancer reconstruction and navigating the journey of reconstruction onto normalcy in life.
The organizers of the event Dr. Nikita Gupta (Visiting Consultant, Dermatology), Dr Samarth Gupta and Ms. Siya Tayal successfully achieved their goal of educating not only the cancer survivors but the community at large through panel discussions and interactive sessions, ensuring they have the correct information needed to make informed decisions about healthcare. By normalizing these conversations, it is easier to break down the stigma and misconceptions surrounding the topic, fostering a supportive and safer setting and taking a step towards more compassionate and informed post- breast cancer care.
